When Vowel Collide

Ü becomes W (voiced labio-velar approximant, like English water) when preceding another vowel.

Ï becomes Y (voiced palatal approximant, like English you) when preceding another vowel.

I and Ï become Y when following another vowel, except Ü, forming a dipthong.

Examples
ü + a = wa
ï + a = ya
a + i = ay (pronounced like eye)
